Restaurants and Tapas Bars

In the Pueblo

There are an abundance of bars and restaurants in both Torrox Pueblo and Torrox Costa. The following are some of our favourites. However, we have yet to try everywhere as there are so many!

Kiosko Plaza de la Concordia

This is very close to the house. It is a no-frills bar that does nice pizzas, burgers, kebabs and traditional tapas (it also does takeaway). Drinks are cheap and it is also great for breakfast and does churros for €1!

Check the opening times, as they are all over the place. The owner is a real character and a good laugh (if you can understand his strong Córdoban accent!).

Mibar

Mibar is also very close. Mibar is a great bar that does excellent meals and tapas (and small beers for €1!). I recommend the Camperos (similar to toasties) and the Calamari. It is worth going on a Sunday for a traditional Paella from 1pm. The owner Camilo is also a lovely man. Highly recommended.

Teteria Taifas (Teahouse Taifas)

This is a Moroccan tea and shisha bar. They also serve alcohol and cakes. The cocktails are amazing here too. The interior is beautiful and it’s a very cool place.

Meson La Terraza

This is a lovely restaurant on Calle Baja. Sit on the terrace and have your meal with a beautiful view of the Almijara mountains. A bit pricier than some of the others in the Pueblo, but well worth it. Staff really friendly and you get a free amuse bouche and aperitif with the meal.

La Casa

La Casa is a boutique hotel on Calle Baja. It is run by a nice British couple and the food is brilliant. Prices are a bit more, but it is worth it. I recommend the ribs and the mussels!

The following places are in the Plaza de la Constitución (Main Square):

El bar de Manolo

This bar, as well as its two adjoining neighbours, are all pretty similar. We think this is probably the best of the three though. They have varied menus at good prices. Manolo’s is known for its variety of fresh fish.

Bar Aries

Another nice bar in the main square, with cheap tapas available at the bar. A good place to sit and people watch with a drink.

La Plaza Restaurante

This has the best location. It is right next to the centre of the Plaza (where the fountains are!), so you can sit and eat/drink and keep an eye of the kids whilst they play.

La Plaza does a great deal of 7 tapas and a bottle of wine (or jug of beer) for €10. You can also choose tapas at the bar for €1. The bar staff are friendly too.

Restaurante La Biznaga

This is on the opposite side of the Plaza opposite the statue of El Miguero. It is never as busy as everywhere else, but the food has always been very good when we have been. Particularly the pork and quails egg tapa!

Refugio de Baco

This tapas bar is down the steps from the main Plaza in to the Plaza de la Hoya. This is the first place we ate at in the evening when we first came to Torrox Pueblo and we loved it.

The owner Camilo is a real character! Sometimes there is a menu, sometimes there isn’t – he doesn’t care and nor should we! He always points to his head to say he will remember everything (he rarely does), but the tapas here is usually great and super cheap. The patatas bravas, chorizo, tortilla and morcilla (black pudding) are particularly nice.

Not recommended if you are not in to real and authentic tapas and would prefer a meal. However, it is a great place to sit and relax away from the busier main square.

Rincon Del Arte

This is great a new tapas and flamenco bar down in the Plaza de la Hoya. The tapas is really good and really cheap too. They have regular live flamenco and musicians. Highly recommended!

Other recommended bars/Restaurants in the Pueblo

Cafeteria Asador

This café/restaurant is on the Avenida de Competa (the main road as you come in to the Pueblo). We can’t recommend it highly enough! It is famous for its roast chicken (hence asador) and also has a good menu with lots to choose from. Cheap tapas and drinks too.

It doesn’t look amazing but is a must when in Torrox!
